Our view: Latest warfare reflects Hamas' miscalculation

In military terms, Israel's week-old assault on Gaza seems certain to end as similar operations have in the past. Rocket launchers, the source of hundreds of attacks on Israel this year, will be destroyed along with other munitions. Key leaders will be killed. Infrastructure will be decimated. Tunnels used to smuggle missile parts will be assaulted (and rebuilt). And more civilians will be killed. The death toll passed 100 Monday, including children, on its way to matching the 1,000 killed four years ago in the last incursion, which left Gaza devastated. (continue reading...)
