Erdogan says U.S.-Style Presidency Too Clumsy for Turkey

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is fond of touting the strength of his relationship with U.S. President Barack Obama. But that doesn’t mean he’d want a U.S.-style presidency in Turkey.

For Mr. Erdogan, who has been spearheading calls to replace Turkey’s current parliamentary system with an executive presidency, a U.S.-style executive would be too "clumsy” to work here. Turkey should have a "Turkish system,” meaning a single-body parliament instead of a congress divided into two houses, he said. (continue reading...)
